The number of smart device users (smartphones, tablets, laptops etc.) continues to increase. Consequently web usage, one of the primary functions of smart devices continues to increase rapidly. Optimization for smart devices
A perfect example of web design fuelled by development is mobile optimization. Made popular by the rise of pinterest, card layouts have become a hot trend for web design. Content heavy sites particularly find it a good option to pack in as much information as possible on a page. Google now is a good example of a site using card layout.
Focus on user experience
User experience is all the rage now. Websites are after giving the user a wholesome experience. This has resulted in a movement focusing on user experience in web design. This is a trend that will probably hang around for a while.
User interface animations
CSS3 transitions began an animation trend that is refusing to die down. Numerous animation specific java script libraries now exist with many more coming up. Animation is not outright necessarily for a great design; however, if utilized properly, it can spruce up a design and take it from great to awesome.
Online tools
The things that one can accomplish online for free are mind boggling. From different calculations to accessing design tools and creating resumes, it is clear that there is no limit to the number of things we can do with online tools. The possibilities are numerous and they continue to increase. Webapps make this possible to a great extent and most software that needed to be run on a desktop can now be accessed online. Task runners that are automated
Tasks that used to need manual labor are being handled by task runners that are automated such as Gulp. It is simply a case of making work easier and making it able to produce top notch code without human errors. For this reason, this is a trend that is likely to continue beyond 2016.
Social buttons
This is a trend that has been around for a while now. With the rise of social media, web design had to shift to include social buttons on their pages. More and more existing and upcoming sites continue to include social buttons.
Customer explainer videos
Instagram direct for instance uses a real-life customer explainer video. It is a trend that has been a hit. Many companies both big and small have taken a liking to using customer explainer videos to explain how a service or a product functions as it is more effective.
